Meet the Team
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I have been described as an empathic listener who truly cares to create a safe space. Others share they appreciate I am relatable and resourceful. Initially, my goal is to understand the situation, respectfully share my perspectives, as well as to seek and collaborate with other professionals, on an as needed basis.
Following my graduate degree at Boston College in special education with a concentration in social sciences, I was an elementary school age Resource Room Consultant, Master Teacher of 3-5 years, followed by teaching history in a school for children with language based learning challenges. As Department Head and ultimately an administrator, I saw the role of counselor integral to working with children ages 3-18 years. During that time, I earned an additional certification, studying at Framingham State University in Counseling, as this counseling role appeared pivotal to the many roles with children, families, and school administrators. Chairing IEP’s as well as providing evaluations and writing IEP’s was an important part of those roles.
I was honored with The Exceptional Direct Service Teacher Award by the Massachusetts Association of C.766 Approved Private Schools.
As a Transition Coordinator, I was invited by Harvard School of Education to present to a State House Transition Legislation Committee Panel: models for effective transition (based on programs I developed), as new State Transition Teacher/Administrator Certification was in the planning process. I had the opportunity to provide service to children in the roles of school counselor, working 1-1 and with small groups. Additionally, I have a counseling practice providing support to children and adults. Area of focus: Adoption/Foster Care, Anxiety, Autism, Coping Mechanisms, Depression. Modalities of Treatment include: Cognitive Behavioral, Eclectic, Humanisitic, Mindfulness-Cognitive, Art Therapy. I am a certified Reiki Therapist. With so many factors effecting childrens’ lives, counseling is an opportunity to help children identify with feelings they may have experienced for awhile, but are uncertain as to how to manage. Through developmentally appropriate play, dramatic play, motor games, art, music, crafts, themes or life challenges too big for them to self manage can be sorted out in a child-friendly manner. Working with parents and caregivers; recommending strategies to facilitate daily emotions, challenges and experiences, is a primary aspect of the sessions. Working with these precious young humans to recognize their challenges and strengths as well as to increase their ability to engage socially with peers and family, are goals to lead to healthy, happy, peaceful lives.
